Nutrition is important at all ages, especially in childhood as these are foundation years of life. Children who are taught healthy eating habits and participation in physical activity enjoy good health and development though out the life. But children can be moody, throw tantrums towards food. Technological developments are contributing to sedentary lifestyles that are changing children. Luckily, parents can intervene to make a difference. By encouraging children to exercise every day and eat nutritious food, they can help them follow balanced diets and enjoy good health. Ample physical activity and a healthy diet in early childhood produce superior cognitive outcomes in young children. Regular physical activity leads to growth and development and has multiple benefits to physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being which makes children better at learning.
Nutrition for children means making sure that they are getting right nutrients in appropriate quantities. These nutrients are carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals. The requirements of these nutrients change depending upon height and age of the child. Children may not want to eat at times, or they may want to eat too much of the wrong foods. Parents should avoid using food to punish or reward the children. They should create a relaxed and happy setting for meals. Children are very active. Their bodies need nutrients on a regular basis. Even if they do not feel hungry, offer them meals or snacks 4 to 5 times a day. This will make sure that they have enough fuel to play and grow. The child may have a favorite food but see that there is a variety in the plate. Try to reduce their screen time, instead indulge them in other house hold activities.
