How Holistic Wellness Improves Relationship Between Parents and Children
By Shreya Ghose
These days, children as young as 4 years are having anger issues. Mental health issues are especially prevalent among teenage youth these days. This, in turn, affects the relationship between parents and children greatly. Parents don’t know and have trouble figuring out how to counter their child’s raging whims. It’s not just about studies, it goes much beyond that with multiple behavioural and psychological issues.
This is where holistic wellbeing of children comes into play, thus affecting their mental health in a better way. Few decades back, concerns related to child development were related only to studies or sports. The present scenario however, is vastly different with extensive amounts of emphasis being laid on their personality development, how they handle their relationships, confidence levels, happiness levels etc.
Have you ever wondered why it is that ‘back in the day’ people were so much happier and laid-back?
It is because they also incorporated sufficient time for relaxation and physical exercise. While holistic wellness relates to mental and spiritual wellbeing, a huge part of it also means physical well-being. A revolutionary way of physical health and wellbeing has been devised for children by our Academy.
There is a way to bring that reality into the present hum-drum of busy lives. Parents and children are a team always, if even one of the parts of that team doesn’t function properly, the whole team sort of just breaks apart. Investing into your child’s physical wellbeing at the ripe age of 4-16 years, will pay off big-time in future.
The thing is, holistic wellness among children remains unaddressed among teenagers and children in India. A number of factors may be responsible for triggering psychological or physiological problems in children like-
Nutritional deficiencies
Unhealthy diet
Inadequate physical activities
Addiction to technology to an unhealthy extent
Holistic physical wellness helps improve your child’s psychological well-being and thus they react more calmly and are more understanding towards their peers. It cultivates discipline and calms the mind further, as they spend more time working on and improving themselves instead of absorbing toxic information online.
It improves their serotonin and dopamine levels, thus improving their sleep cycle and ‘happy-hormones’.
Another great side-effect of holistic physical wellbeing is the fact that parents and children can enjoy doing physical exercises together. Few holistic exercises include- zumba, yoga, functional, kickboxing etc. they all get your body out of a state of stagnancy
